Task: Select a design group / agency / designer that you admire and explore its marketing strategies.
For obvious reasons, I admire Pixar. With its long history, it has created around 13 movies, all of which became successful and praised by many.
Luxo Jr. : We all see that cute lamp at the beginning of every Pixar movie. This is a symbol now and is inseparable from this renowned animation studio.
Online sources: This strategy, 'obviously' is key to any business / company, for through online sources people all over the world can explore the company at hand. There are applications for Macs and iPhones for Pixar movies. In addition to that, one may stumble upon pop up ads while browsing online.
Pixar's website is rich with information. Yet it is extremely easy to navigate through the sections including: feature films, short films, behind the scenes and more. Moreover, on the website there is a section for RenderMan; the software that Pixar is home to and utilizes it for its movies.
The most interesting part of the website is the 'About' page, where you can read an entire story line from 1979 until the current time which is organized with simplicity and beauty. This is the website:

Exhibitions: It is a misconception that Pixar only hires designers and 3D animators. It also hires traditional artists. It has exhibited artworks created for its movies, which is an original way of marketing itself.
Concerts: This is a more elaborative and unique way of marketing through movie soundtracks. In more than one country Pixar has generated professional concerts where complete orchestra musicians perform music compilations from Pixar movies.
Internships: Marketing itself professionally may have led to a higher demand on internships. However, I believe it is a two-way street. With internships, Pixar proves its confidence with its professionalism.
Merchandise: We all see them; t-shirts, mugs and more on Pixar movie characters. And since Disney purchased Pixar, you can find these merchandise elements in Disneyland Resort and not only online.
Disneyland Resort: Ever heard of 'Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage'? This is an example of a Pixar movie-based theme game in a place where thousands of people globally pour into for unforgettable excitement. Here is it.
